The Turks |
|
Turkish people originate from the steppe country of the middle east, where they were originally nomads. With the rise of the Islamic Empire they spread from central Asia, settling in Anatolia from the 10th century A.D. While most Turkish are dark skinned & dark haired, reflecting this heritage, the influence of early traders along the Silk Road can be seen throughout the country with their fair hair & light eye colourings. The two traits which characterise Turkish people are hospitality and close family ties...
Hospitality is one of the cornerstones of the Turkish way of life. Turkish people are gracious and generous hosts. Traditional hospitality will greet you in every corner of the country, greeting their guests with smiling faces and offering them the best seat & choicest food.
Family Relations are very close. The young have great respect for their elders even in today's more modern society and children are cherished. Around the traditional holiday periods of Ramadan & Kurban, huge migrations of families travel across the country to get together honour these religious occasions.
Despite the misconceived image of Turks being ferocious warriors with long moustaches, brandishing scimitars, all visitors will find that the Turks are actually an extremely friendly & welcoming race. They are also very respectful of all other religious beliefs following the code that
'whatever religion you are from,
whichever country you come from,
