Banking in Turkey |
|
Banks offer many of the same services as in the UK - payment cards, telephone banking, internet banking, standing orders etc. Banks are generally open from 08.30am – 12 noon and 13.30pm to 17.00pm, Monday to Friday. Change offices are open seven days a week from 08.00am until about 23.00 hours although the rate of exchange offered at the Banks is generally slightly higher. Money can be transferred efficiently & securely from European banks to Turkish banks through the electronic 'Swift' system. This normally takes three to four working days and there is a charge for this service made by the UK bank (between £15 & £40) and occasionally by the receiving Turkish bank (depending on which bank is used). Once you own your property, a direct debit can be set up by visiting your branch (& with some banks via internet banking) for electricity, telephone, satellite TV. In order to arrange a telephone line and satellite TV you must have a residence visa. Interest rates are higher than in the UK, however, as inflation has stabilised and continues to lower, so will the interest rate continue to adjust down. |
